Did ANYTHING pass him??? There were astin martins, way to many porsche's, a plethora of E36 bmws. Even saw 1 or 2 BMW M Coupes... And NOTHING passed him? wtf lol

the sound comes from the dog cut gears. regular cars that we drive have gears cut differently in order to not have that whine, however, they lose their efficiency. so race cars resort to dog cut gears to maximize the power from the engine to the wheels.

Yes, they are sequential gearboxes. As you can see by the simple up/down gearchange procedure like a motorcycle. They also have dog clutches instead of synchros for strength and fast selection. Driver does not need to use the clutch because the gears will engage so quickly. There is a switch that senses the gearstick movement and cuts the ignition for a fraction of a second to the let the gear release. The boxes are made by Peter Hollinger in Australia who makes the V8 supercar gearboxes.

Its a NA engine, and it has straight cut gears, which are what you're hearing.I'm sorry it doesn't sound like Smoky & the Bandit :(
